On the Verge

Packing my rucksack and tent to head off to a festival is one of my favourite things to do. Festivals are such a rich melting pot of creativeness, and often a place that can spark an idea, an interesting conversation or musings on life.
It was therefore very exciting to have the chance to organise a small festival!

The idea behind ‘On The Verge’ was to bring a diverse community together and forge relationships between GSA and Garnethill residents around issues of sustainability.

The basis of the festival design was a truly circular flow of resources in action with food as the main connector. No waste was created and everything used throughout the event was fully compostable or keepable.

The Project Cafe, Glasgow was commissioned to provide a buffet of delicious vegetarian food with plates made from compostable plants and throughout the festival there were talks, demonstrations and happenings centred around food. From learning how to make compost, to seed potting to mixing your own nutritious drink on a cycle-powered smoothie maker people got involved and created a vibrant and fun atmosphere.
