Fantoosherie

Fantoosherie (my favourite word) means to be adorned in old scots. I created this brand in 2007, turning textile waste into bright tactile products and accessories. This was done by collecting discarded textiles and using processes like stitch, dye, embellishment, screen printing and upholstery.

Through fantoosherie, I explored themes surrounding circularity and the circular economy on a cottage industry scale. It also challenged conventions of mass manufactured fashion & the mechanisation of traditional artisan skills.

Products were stocked in various independent shops throughout UK and Europe and featured in publications like Coveted and Elle magazine. I also undertook various commissions and collaborations with Aimee Kent and EMI music.I loved this time of experimenting, learning, having fun with and slowing down fashion and in many ways it has led me on to my current interest in Scottish Natural Dyes.
